Green waters and marshy areas of Saint-Marcel

Saint-Marcel owes much of its fame to the incredible colour of a water source found in the village of Laveyc that can easily be reached on foot from the Sanctuary of Plout. The stream varies from green to turquoise blue, astonishing mineralogy and geology lovers but especially children. It may resemble a work of contemporary art but the green water is definitely not artificial!

The marshy area of Les Îles is an important natural reserve where it is possible to observe a wide variety of water birds, swamp plants and other hydrosphere inhabitants. Being one of the area’s few fluvial habitats, it is a highly-valued feature of Valle d'Aosta and a must for lovers of bird life.
