Saint-Marcel Mines and Museum

Known since Roman times, the mines of the Saint-Marcel valley are rich in minerals such as iron, manganese and copper. When exploring the area between Chuc and Servette you’ll come across a wealth of tunnels where you can still feel the miners’ suffering and hardship. Visits to the mining complex are available during the day, or even night-time thanks to the expertise of professional guides.

Further information about ore mining can be obtained at Viviminiera Visitors’ Centre where there are also some wonderfully convincing three-dimension reconstructions! The museum display is enhanced by short films, videos and technical data sheets providing exhaustive yet concise information.
